As Super Lap Battle heads into its 5th year we are almost guaranteed to see numerous records shattered. With over 50% of the field at the 2008 Super Lap Battle Finals running blazingly fast sub-two minute lap times at Buttonwillow Raceway Park the level of competition has definitely been raised.
The Cusco/Tomei Subaru WRX STI driven by Tarzan Yamada came within .849 seconds of the HKS CT230R record holding time of 1:43.523. In Unlimited FR the C-West/BC Honda S2000 driven by Tyler McQuarrie set the new record for the class at 1:46.893. For Limited AWD Evasive Motorsport’s Mitsubishi Evo IX driven by Tim Kuo almost became the first Limited Class car to ever break into the sub 1:50s with a 1:50.003. Not content with just breaking one record Tim Kuo piloted the Sportcar Motion Honda Civic to a new Limited FF class record of 1:55.948. In the first year of running a full street class competition we saw both Street AWD (Nils Leufven with a 1:56.672) and Street FR (Matt Andrews with a 1:57.711) post times that would have reached the podium in the Unlimited Class just a few years ago.
As time attacks evolve in the United States; Super Lap Battle in conjunction with Super Street, Modified, Import Tuner and eurotuner magazines will be there to bring out the most competitive time attack event in North America. In 2009 we are looking to expand the audience for time attack into other larger motorsport events across the country. The schedule is still being finalized but check back often as there will updates on the schedule as well as teams and other news across the industry.
